Liverpool showed their determination in the Premier League with a crucial late victory against Brentford, further solidifying their championship ambitions. As the January transfer window approaches, attention is being drawn to the future of three key players: Mo Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Virgil van Dijk, all of whom have contracts set to expire this summer.

Liverpool set sights on Kubo

As Al Hilal is reportedly interested in bringing Mo Salah to Saudi Arabia, potentially making him the highest-paid footballer in the world, Liverpool is beginning to strategise for a future without him.

According to reports from Spain, Liverpool has identified 23-year-old Real Sociedad winger Takefusa Kubo as a prime candidate to replace Salah. The club has proposed three players to the Basque side to negotiate the €60 million release clause for Kubo.

Kubo, a former Barcelona youth player, made his return to Spain with Real Madrid in 2019. After several loan spells, he made an impact after joining the La Liga side Real Sociedad in 2022. His exceptional ball-carrying ability and crucial contributions out of possession have garnered attention. With 20 goals in La Liga and five for the national team, Kubo has established himself as a formidable player.

Takefusa Kubo has recorded seven goal contributions in twenty-six appearances for the side. While these numbers differ from the returns typically seen from a player like Mohamed Salah, the underlying statistics reveal notable similarities between the two wingers.

La Liga football club Real Sociedad has a £50million buy-out clause for the talented Japanese player. Based on past experiences with buy-out clauses involving Real Sociedad, such as during the Martin Zubimendi transfer, the process may be complex.
