Arne Slot chose to forgo his typical post-match interviews, including the traditional debrief with the press, after the thrilling conclusion of Liverpool’s 2-2 draw against Everton. Since taking over as Liverpool head coach, Slot has established himself as a no-nonsense talker and his straightforward approach in press conferences has garnered him considerable appreciation from the media.
Dutchman didn't make it to the Press-conference
Following the 2-2 draw in the Merseyside derby on Wednesday, the Dutchman chose not to engage in his usual post-match interviews with broadcasters or participate in a press conference. This decision came after he received a red card during a disagreement with referee Michael Oliver in what were tense moments at the full-time whistle.
The match also saw Curtis Jones and Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure in a heated altercation, who was celebrating in front of the away fans. This interaction led to a collective response from several players on both teams, which required intervention from stewards and police to restore order.
Slot was sent off after shaking Oliver’s hand, likely following a heated exchange with the official. Assistant Sipke Hulshoff also received a dismissal. As a result of Hulshoff's red card, neither he nor Slot were required to attend media obligations in line with Premier League regulations. Liverpool had an opportunity to have their third-in-command, John Heitinga, take part in the press conference; however, they opted not to pursue that route.
Slot did not provide an immediate response regarding the officiating by Oliver or the overall nature of the game. A number of fouls were overlooked by the referee, including a clear infringement on Ibrahima Konate during the buildup to James Tarkowski’s equaliser.
The media will have another chance to question Slot on Friday, when Liverpool holds their press conference in preparation for the Wolves match on Sunday.
