Lisandro Martinez, a defender for Manchester United, has shared his list of heroes and all-time favourite defenders. The Argentinean defender's tough defending style and dedication to displaying his devotion for Manchester United rapidly made him a crowd favourite at Old Trafford.

Due to injuries sustained during the previous season, Erik ten Hag, the manager of the Red Devils, missed the former Ajax defender. The 26-year-old has been essential to Ten Hag's system and the team's capacity to build up from defence with his ball-playing abilities since moving from Amsterdam in 2022.

Martinez discussed the experience in Manchester with Sky Sports prior to Sunday's matchup with Liverpool. The FIFA World Cup winner said that “I think as a fan of Manchester United, I want the players like fighting for my club. So I think that’s our connection. I chose to fight, I chose [to] give my best on the pitch.”

He added, "I have won titles in Holland, I have won with the national team, including the most important trophy - World Cup. I have won the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup, but I want more. I want to put Man Utd in the place that this great club deserves."

“Big leader on the pitch” : Lisandro Martinez on Sergio Ramos

Martinez was questioned who he thought was the greatest defender of all time as he thought back on his influences as a defender. The crowd favourite disclosed that he finds great inspiration in Sergio Ramos' style of play.

Under Louis Van Gaal, Ramos was on the verge of joining Manchester United in 2014, but he decided to stay with Real Madrid and extend his contract instead. The supporters of Manchester United will be hoping that Martinez will be a major player in the team's future and win a few championships at Old Trafford.

The former Ajax defender said, “Yeah, I know a fighter, but with a big personality, big leader on the pitch. I love the play, the way he played his career and [the] many titles he won.”
