Lionel Messi congratulates FC Barcelona on its triumph in La Liga via his Instagram

Former Barcelona legend Lionel Messi took to his social media to express his mirth after the Catalan side guaranteed their domestic treble this season. FC Barcelona won La Liga 2024-25 following their victory over Espanyol. 

FC Barcelona humbled Espanyol 2-0 at RCDE Stadium to clinch their 28th La Liga title. The joy of Barcelona fans skyrocketed after Lionel Messi congratulated the club.

Lionel Messi's message for FC Barcelona 

This season, Barcelona are experiencing what could be considered their finest form since Messi's departure in 2021. Hansi Flick's team has been exceptionally thrilling, having scored 97 goals in La Liga, and they clinched their 28th league title with a 2-0 victory over Espanyol. The team has scored the highest number of goals across Europe. The team has also won the Supercopa de España and the Copa del Rey in addition to the league. Barcelona, unfortunately, bowed out in the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League in an edge-of-the-seat thriller against Inter Milan.

Since Messi's unexpected departure from Barcelona in 2021, his relationship with the club hasn't been great. The Argentine World Cup winner felt betrayed by club president Joan Laporta, who had assured him that a contract renewal would be feasible despite the difficult financial circumstances facing the club.

Ever since he left the club in 2021, critics have often questioned Messi's feelings and loyalty towards Barcelona, as he never celebrated their achievements following his departure. However, this time the Argentine great did post a congratulatory message for his former club on winning the La Liga title. 

"Congratulations," Messi posted on his Instagram story.

Lionel Messi has been rumoured to move back to Camp Nou many times since 2021. However, as per the current scheme of things, Messi's return to Barcelona seems more improbable than ever before. The legend is enjoying the twilight phase of his professional career at Inter Miami in the United States of America. He is set to participate in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup in June.
