Erik ten Hag has been appointed as the head coach of Bayer Leverkusen, taking over from Xabi Alonso, who recently vacated the position. Alonso announced shortly before the conclusion of the current season that he would be stepping down from the club, having guided them to an extraordinary league and cup double in the 2023/24 season. Xabi Alonso is set to join 15-time UCL winners Real Madrid this season.

"Leverkusen are one of the best clubs in Germany and also among the European elite. I've come to Leverkusen to back up the ambitions that have grown in recent years. It's an appealing role to build something in this period of transition and develop an ambitious team." Erik Ten Hag said.

Erik Ten Hag had been jobless since he was dismissed from his service at Manchester United back in October 2024. Here is what he said after signing the contract.

"Bayer Leverkusen is one of the best clubs in Germany and also belongs to the expanded European elite. The club offers excellent conditions, the talks with those responsible have impressed me very much." He added.

Despite having a horrendous time at Old Trafford, Erik Ten Hag has been a pretty accomplished gaffer in his own rights. The Dutch manager has won three Eredivisie titles at Ajax and led the side to the 2019 UEFA Champions League semifinals.
