Leicester City is likely to be handed two deduction points that could hamper their chances in the English Premier League. The reason behind the move is due to the overspending of the club in the last two to three years. They will join Everton among the clubs to be handed deduction points. In 2023, Everton sustained two deduction points.

In 2023, they were related before making a comeback by topping the table. But that was under the reign of Enzo Maresca. Under Steve Cooper, they seem to be a different entity. It is being claimed that Leicester City overspent in the 2022-23 season. A real-time investigation was conducted on the club last year that complained about compliance with financial rules.

'The Sun', a publication that conducted the investigation, claimed that the Premier League could push the club for two different penalties. They could undergo the fate Everton did last season who were handed two education points for overspending in 2021-22 and 2022-23 respectively. Both clubs have failed to adhere to the competition's Profit and Sustainability Rules.

More troubles for Leicester City

According to the rule, a club is allowed to incur a maximum loss of 105 million Euros in three seasons. As Everton and Leicester City failed to contain the loss, they are at fault. In fact, Everton was initially handed 10 deduction points which came down to six upon the appeal. Nottingham Forest also bagged deduction points last season after a failure to appeal.

Both Everton and Nottingham Forest managed the losses in their own way. Leicester City will be up against Tottenham in their next game in the Premier League. they might have a big problem as Patson Daka and Jamie Vardy are ruled out due to injury. Additionally, Kelechi Iheanacho being ruled out after an attack could hamper their chances in the upcoming games.
