This weekend marks the eagerly awaited return of the Premier League after over three months, and Chelsea will have a difficult start. The Blues will welcome Manchester City, the reigning champions, to Stamford Bridge on Sunday. Enzo Maresca, the new head coach of Chelsea, will make his formal debut against the team he was component of as a head coach for just eighteen months. Cole Palmer, who had a major impact with goals and assists last season, was Chelsea's best player. Marc Cucurella, meantime, became a major player toward the close of the 2023–24 campaign and was called up to the Spanish side for the Euros, helping them to triumph.

Jackson should start due to experience, although his recent injury and lack of game fitness may be taken into account. Maresca must also consider Thursday's UEFA Conference League qualifying match versus Servette. Guiu might be starting for Chelsea, giving them an opportunity to strike with a man who is a little known but dependable and who could surprise Manchester City.

Watching how things play out will be interesting as the day gets closer. There may yet be new players who come off the bench or who go right into the starting lineup. Even if Manchester City is still the favorite, any outcome that keeps the team from losing badly to Guardiola's team might be considered a win in Enzo Maresca's early days.

Pep Guardiola wants Chelsea to back new manager

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has said that the fans and the club should back Enzo Maresca ahead of the new season.

Pep Guardiola said, Maresca: “My advice: give him time. If they, the owners of Chelsea, accept my advice…give Enzo time and it will work. All the managers need time. I don't know if Chelsea is the place to do this, but give him time and he will work”.
