Jack Barrett has left Everton this summer, and Blackburn Rovers signed him, the EFL Championship team announced. After a successful trial, the 22-year-old goalkeeper signed a one-year contract with the option of a one-year extension with the second-tier team.

Fleetwood Town was reportedly also interested in signing the shot-stopper this summer, as reported by Alan Nixon. However, they ultimately lost out to John Eustace's team, and Barrett has now provided an explanation for his choice. Barrett's contract was set to expire in July of next year, and the Toffees chose to take advantage of it by sending the goalkeeper on loan to Cavalry FC of Canada, where he played just once.

It is not at all unexpected to see the young potential expand his horizons, as he has not made any senior appearances at Goodison Park and has not shown much progress toward a first-team opportunity. Barrett will be eager to compete with Aynsley Pears and Joe Hilton within the goalkeeping reserves at Ewood Park, given his lack of first-team experience.

Jordan Pickford, the goalkeeper for Everton and England, was a great teacher for the 22-year-old, but the 32-year-old was probably going to prevent Barrett from growing. With no indications of slowing down, Pickford will likely be the Toffees' starting goalkeeper for the foreseeable future, which will prevent any younger players from making an impression.

“Blackburn Rovers is the perfect place for me to go” : Jack Barrett

Jack Barrett spoke to the club media and discussed why he left a club like Everton to join Blackburn Rovers. He would be hoping to have a great season for the club and can lead them to promotion this season.

The former Everton goalkeeper said, “When I knew that Blackburn Rovers were interested, I obviously knew how big of a football club it is and the history of the club, so I was delighted to be able to sign. I was at Everton for 14 years – a long time – but I think it was the right time to move on and try something different and I feel like Blackburn Rovers is the perfect place for me to go.”
