Despite Mason Greenwood's impressive performance for Marseille, Lee Carsley revealed that he is not currently being considered for an England call-up. The 22-year-old left Manchester United in the summer, and he has made a very good start to his life with the French club, scoring five goals during his first three games.

Although the £26.6 million agreement appears to be excellent for Marseille, Greenwood's future on the international scene is still up in the air. The forward only has one England cap, which he earned against Iceland four years ago, but a lot has happened since then, including his move to Marseille.

Greenwood only departed Manchester United in July, however before to that, he had not appeared on the field for the Red Devils since his arrest in January 2022 on charges of violence, controlling behaviour, and attempted rape. All accusations were dismissed in February 2023, and he went on to play for his club, first on loan at Getafe and then permanently at Marseille. However, there is no indication that he will be joining the national team again.

During the press conference on Friday, Carsley stated of Greenwood that he was questioned about his availability. He said, “Mason wasn’t a player that we can consider, to be honest, no. I’m aware of how he’s doing, but he wasn’t under consideration.”

Why did Gareth Southgate not take Mason Greenwood?

Gareth Southgate put a great deal of emphasis on culture in England, with the national team re-establishing contact with the people after a long absence. A significant portion of that was the people chosen, and the former Three Lions manager was constantly aware of how particular decisions would affect the inner sanctum.

He acknowledged that a Mason Greenwood comeback wouldn't have occurred prior to the Euros earlier this year, even if he didn't fully rule it out before leaving the position in order to get more information on the player's circumstances. As he is additionally qualified to represent the Caribbean country, The Sun revealed in August that Jamaica reached out to Greenwood over the prospect of changing his international allegiance from England.
