Valencia to file legal case on the documentary
The Netflix documentary titled "Vini Jr." produced by Conspiracao was released globally last week, offering an in-depth look at Vinicius's personal and professional life. A major portion of the documentary highlights incidents from Real Madrid's 1-0 defeat to Valencia at the Mestalla in 2023, during which the Brazilian confronted a group of Valencia supporters and brought the situation to the attention of referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea, prompting him to halt the game in accordance with La Liga's protocol for addressing racist abuse. Three fans even received imprisonment and were banned from the stadium following the incident.
The Netflix documentary covering a recent match features footage that includes a TikTok video of Valencia fans directing taunts at Vinicius Jr. The transcription in question inaccurately captures the fans yelling "mono," which translates to "monkey," instead of "tonto," meaning "fool." In response, Valencia's club, Los Che, has issued a statement on social media and their website disputing this transcription. They have also indicated that they may pursue legal action against Netflix if the transcription is not corrected.
"As a response to injustice and falsehoods made towards the Valencia CF fanbase, the club have made a demand in writing to the producers of the documentary regarding their portrayal of what occurred at Mestalla, which does not correspond with reality. Truth and respect for our fans must prevail. Valencia CF reserve the right to legal action corresponding to the situation "#RESPECT", Valencia announced.
