Former England football star Dele Alli had a humiliating return to his first competitive match in over two years, as he received a red card less than ten minutes into his debut for Serie A club Como.
Once a key player at Tottenham and a World Cup semi-finalist with Gareth Southgate’s England in 2018, Dele has been working to revitalize his career after being signed by Serie A club Como manager Cesc Fabregas before Christmas in 2024.

He was substituted off the bench in the 81st minute of regulation time. Hence, he came into the pitch after a gap of nearly 2 years. His last appearance was in February 2023 for Besiktas.
However, he didn't have the best possible return. He made a horrendous challenge on his former national team-mate Ruben Loftus-Cheek at the start of injury time. He initially received a yellow card, but upon VAR inspection, it was changed to red, and he was given his marching orders.

His former national side team-mate Kyle Walker tried to talk the referee into showing lenience, but his efforts went in vain, and Delete had to leave the field.
“[Dele] is a player who scores goals, at this moment he has to improve a lot and it is a serious mistake for someone of his experience. He left the team in difficulty, that is the negative thing of the evening.” Cesc Fabregas said.
As a result of the red card, Dele faces suspension from the next fixture. The 28-year-old revealed his personal struggles while he stayed away from the game. He said that he was sexually assaulted as a child and suffered from mental health issues and sleeping pill addiction.
