Just a day after the thrilling Kolkata Derby, the Kishore Bharati Stadium hosted a match between Mohammedan SC and Kerala Blasters. The Yellow Army achieved a notable 2-1 comeback victory, securing valuable points. However, the match was overshadowed by crowd disturbances that emerged in the latter stages.

Tension among home fans escalates

During the match, a situation arose that prompted a pause of at least five minutes as fans of Mohammedan SC expressed their frustrations by throwing items onto the pitch and toward the traveling Kerala Blasters supporters. This incident garnered significant attention on social media, leading to criticism of the Black Panthers’ behavior. In light of these events, Kerala Blasters has taken proactive measures by filing a formal complaint with the Indian Super League, requesting a thorough investigation into the matter.

The turning point of the game occurred when Kerala Blasters fans celebrated enthusiastically after scoring a goal. Unfortunately, this led to a negative reaction from the home crowd, resulting in some fans throwing bottles, footwear, and even rocks towards the away section. For the safety of everyone involved, the area designated for away fans was temporarily secured. Moving forward, all supporters must foster a safe and respectful environment during matches.

As Kerala Blasters mounted an impressive comeback, tensions among home fans unfortunately escalated. The atmosphere in the stands became concerning, with incidents of objects being thrown and firecrackers being ignited, prompting serious attention to security measures. The match was ultimately paused for the safety of everyone involved, with players being escorted off the pitch.

Statement issued by KBFC

"We have been in contact with the relevant authorities in Kolkata and the league to gain a full understanding of the situation and have taken necessary action. It is the responsibility of every club to ensure that their fans enjoy a safe environment at matches. Such incidents are unacceptable in football and must be addressed to guarantee the safety of players, officials, and fans alike."
