Defender Robin Le Normand will be sidelined for some time as the team has announced that he sustained a traumatic head injury that also led to a subdural hematoma. Le Normand was hurt in the closing moments of Sunday's Madrid derby. After the away team's corner kick, he and Real Madrid player Aurelien Tchouameni squared off, and he looked much worse. The severity of the incident was unknown prior to the match's immediate termination.

Le Normand's return date has not been announced by Atletico Madrid, although it is anticipated that he is going to be absent for many weeks at the very least. Because of the severity of the damage, he will probably require very cautious treatment. Le Normand's absence will also hurt Spain as they get ready to play their UEFA Nations League games later this month against Serbia and Denmark.

Born in France, Le Normand made his debut for Spain in 2023 and has since accrued 19 caps. He took the field against England in the Euro 2024 final.

“Robin Le Normand suffered a severe blow to the head” : Atletico Madrid

A statement from Atletico Madrid confirmed the absence of the Spanish defender. The statement read, "Robin Le Normand suffered a severe blow to the head in the final minutes of the Madrid derby, for which he underwent a series of tests and was assessed by specialists. In the process of returning our player to competition, the guidelines set out in the protocol established for this type of trauma will be followed."

A subdural haematoma according to the NHS is described as follows: "Blood escapes from the blood vessel, leading to the formation of a blood clot (haematoma) that places pressure on the brain and damages it. Head injuries that cause subdural haematomas are often severe, such as those from a car crash, fall or violent assault. But minor bumps to the head can also lead to a subdural haematoma in a few cases."
