Joao Felix has maintained his desire to remain at FC Barcelona once his season-long loan from Atletico Madrid concludes. The forward's future remains uncertain, with a return to FC Barcelona unlikely due to the club's financial difficulties.

It has to be seen whether Atletico will approve an additional loan, however Felix is clear that he wants to stay with the Catalans. Barcelona president Joan Laporta additionally said that the club hopes to retain Felix and Joao Cancelo, but now has to figure out a way to make the numbers work. Meanwhile, both players will travel to Germany for Euro 2024, where they hope to bring home the trophy for Portugal.

While talking to the Nude Project, the former Benfica superstar said that, “I’m on loan, it doesn’t depend on me. My plan is clear, I love Barcelona and I want to stay.It depends on several factors, so let’s see what’s gonna happen.”

Despite Barcelona's continued financial troubles, the club is working on a combined move to retain both of them in Catalonia for at least a further year. No decision is expected on either of them until after Euro 2024, with Portugal projected to advance far into the tournament's final rounds.

Felix's public professions of admiration for FC Barcelona have pushed him more distant from a permanent comeback to home team Atletico Madrid in the coming weeks. Goals versus Los Rojiblancos, as well as criticism of them, have widened the gap, and being recalled would only serve as an uneasy truce.

Will Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo be signed permanently?

Jorge Mendes, the players' agent and a close friend of Joan Laporta, is expected to be active in the process of bringing Cancelo along with Felix again to Barcelona. As stated by the MD, both he and the players in question are optimistic that they will be part of Hansi Flick's squad next season, especially since the German manager recently gave his clearance for the pair to rejoin.

At this point, it appears to be more probable than not that Cancelo as well as Felix are coming back to Barcelona for the following campaign, despite any potential obstacles. Loan deals for the pair are reasonable, however signing them permanently in future years should be avoided until they demonstrate significant progress.
