FC Barcelona set to face stern competition from Atletico Madrid for Spanish goalkeeper

Atletico Madrid is expected to fight with FC Barcelona for the contract of 33-year-old Manchester United legend David de Gea. According to Spanish website Fichajes, Atletico Madrid is interested in signing David de Gea. The Manchester United legend has also been considered for Barcelona during the upcoming transfer window. His admirers may sign him on a free transfer after he left Manchester United this past summer.

David de Gea is a true Manchester United icon, despite leaving the team as a free agent this past summer. The Spaniard spent more than ten years at the Premier League club, joining from Atletico Madrid through a €25 million deal in July 2011. The former Spanish international, who played 45 times for his country but is no longer in the picture, drew criticism in the final years of his Manchester United career because he grew increasingly error-prone and could not construct play from the back.

As a result, Manchester United declined to offer de Gea an additional deal last summer, with the present agreement ending on July 1, 2023. Since then, other clubs have expressed desire in the 33-year-old, with latest claims tying him to Arsenal.
