Joan Laporta acknowledged that Kylian Mbappe's move to Real Madrid is "not good news" for Barcelona, but he also criticised their competitors' transfer tactics. The French superstar completed his much-anticipated switch to Real Madrid on Monday, signing a five-year contract with the current European and Spanish champions.

His arrival to the squad will surely be a huge help for Los Blancos, who already have a few celebrities in Vinicius Jr., Rodrygo, and Jude Bellingham. Barcelona finished second to Real Madrid during the 2023-24 season, but a Bellingham special enabled the capital club win the league double against their rivals. Furthermore, the Blaugranas finished 10 points behind the winners in La Liga, and things could become more severe for the Catalan club in their next campaign as their opponents signed one of the most talented players on the planet and a potential Ballon d'Or contender.

Laporta spoke to Barca One about the Kylian Mbappe transfer as he said, “As a Culé, it's not good news. We wanted to win the Champions League, go to the final in basketball, but regarding Mbappé I like our sporting philosophy of forming a team with local players. I respect what the rivals do, but I'll stick with our philosophy.”

FC Barcelona hope for better days under new management

The FC Barcelona supporters have had a difficult week last week, as Real Madrid not only won the UEFA Champions League for the 15th time in a row, but also defeated Barcelona 95-92 in the ACB League final.

Barcelona hopes to usher in an era of domination under the direction of Hansi Flick. The German faces a difficult assignment and has already begun to work on developing a solid plan before the squad reconvenes for pre-season training. Their first friendly will be versus Manchester City on July 30 in the United States, before they play two more versus Real Madrid and AC Milan on August 3 and 6, respectively.
