Thierry Henry has expressed concern for Pep Guardiola during what seems to be a turbulent period for him, particularly in light of his recent split from wife Cristina Serra and Manchester City's tough season. Following a disastrous match where City faced a 5-1 defeat against Arsenal, the team finds itself in fifth place, 15 points behind league leaders Liverpool.
In recent months, Guardiola has faced a range of issues both on and off the pitch. In January, it was reported that he and his wife Cristina had decided to part ways after three decades together, a decision that seemed influenced by his commitment to remain with Manchester City until 2027.
Before this, in November, Guardiola showed visible signs of stress, emerging with scratches on his face following City's 3-3 Champions League draw with Feyenoord. During this period, he openly confessed that he wanted to harm himself.
Thierry Henry claims Pep is mentally 'unwell'
Arsenal legend Thierry Henry experienced a divorce soon after joining Barcelona in 2007 and empathised with Guardiola. He recognises that it can be difficult to manage personal issues alongside professional responsibilities and noted that he faced similar struggles when he arrived in Barcelona.
"Do I feel sorry about what's happening to Man City and Pep? Yeah, I do, in one thing," Henry told Sky Sports. "It's not easy to deal with what Pep has to deal with outside of football. I went through that when I went to Barcelona. It's not easy to deal with stuff like that when you're not well mentally." Henry said.
"You can see that he's not his usual self. I had to deal with it when I went to Barcelona; I can tell you it's not easy. No one would like to deal with that while you have to perform all the time. So I think we can understand," Henry added.
"Now if you go back on the field, it's not good enough. I don't think that they can cope whenever a team can deal with playing them all the way to ninety minutes and challenge them and look them in their eyes all the way," Henry said.
Guardiola is resolute in his mission to transform City's fortunes in the Premier League, despite facing personal challenges. Currently sitting fifth in the table, this position is uncharacteristic for a team that has consistently dominated English football. Following their setback against Arsenal, City is now fully focused on the FA Cup.
