Football is often considered more than just a game in most parts of the world. It is an emotion that unites the world. However, sometimes emotions can be overwhelming and lead to very negative actions. Such was the scenario in a recent unfortunate incident.
As per reports, an Atalanta BC Fan was stabbed to death by a group of fans of a different team. The incident took place in Italy after a violent clash.
Atalanta fan stabbed to death
An Atalanta supporter was tragically stabbed to death following a confrontation with Inter Milan fans. As reported by Reuters, the incident took place in Bergamo on Saturday night.
Carmelo Beringheli, head of the Carabinieri office in Bergamo, informed Reuters that the altercation began after an Inter supporter made a provocative chant.
Following a confrontation between groups in a pub, violence erupted on the streets near the Atalanta stadium. During the altercation, an Atalanta fan was stabbed in the back. Authorities arrested a suspect, a teenager who claimed he acted in defence of his brother. A knife was discovered nearby, linked to the incident.
Emergency services responded promptly to the scene but were unable to rescue the individual. Atalanta fans honoured 26-year-old Riccardo Claris during the match against Monza on Sunday.

"What happened to our fan must never happen again", said Atalanta's coach.
Inter Milan got the better of Verona and emerged victorious with a 1-0 scoreline in their last fixture. Inter Milan has not posted any statement regarding the incident. Inter Milan are set to face Barcelona in the second leg of the UCL semis finals at San Siro on May 7th.
Atalanta BC paid tribute to their deceased fan with a 4-0 victory over Monza with goals from Lookman, De Ketelaere and Brescianini.
