Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger will be out of action for two months following knee surgery on Tuesday. Despite Rudiger's knee problems throughout the season, which were reportedly caused by an arthritic condition, his meniscus failed on Saturday night during the Copa del Rey final, and he was substituted off for Endrick Felipe with nine minutes remaining in extra time.

Antonio Rudiger had a successful knee surgery and gave an update to his fans on social media. "After I had played for more than seven months with severe pain, it was unfortunately unavoidable that I had to undergo meniscus surgery. Now I'm finally pain-free again. I want to be able to play again as soon as possible, as two big tournaments with the Nations League and the Club World Cup are in front of me, but I have to look from week to week now, and we will see," he wrote..

In Saturday's Copa del Rey final, Madrid lost 3-2 to Barcelona. Rudiger was replaced during extra time and was later sent off for hurling an object into the field and trying to approach the referee. For this act he got banned from matches. Later he apologised for the act.

Antonio Rudiger expected to be back before Club World Cup

However, he will be able to play in Real Madrid's Club World Cup campaign in the United States this summer, since the competition starts on June 14. However, the club will look at his condition, and he would probably return in time for their tournament opener against Al-Hilal on June 18 in the USA.

He will also miss the end of the La Liga season and most of that tournament if his recuperation takes longer than two months. With five games left, Madrid, in second place, is four points behind La Liga champions Barcelona. The two clubs will play each other on May 11 at the Olympic Stadium.
