After Real Madrid's key player, Vinicius Junior, was sent off during Friday night's fierce match against Valencia, the team may have to endure a difficult few weeks without him. The Brazilian attacker got into a furious argument with Valencia's goalkeeper, Stole Dimitrievski, and was sent off in the closing seconds of the 2-1 victory at Mestalla.
Vinicius received his first dismissal in seven years of La Liga action when Soto Grado showed him a straight red card after reviewing the incident on the pitchside monitor. Vinicius jumped up and raced toward the referee after seeing the card, and teammates Rudiger and Ceballos had to hold him back and lead him off the field in a moment of intense emotion and anxiety.
Vinicius receives his first-ever red card in La Liga with this. During his brief spell with Real Madrid Castilla in a match against Celta B, referee Alexander González had previously given him a red card for imitating a foul after he had already been booked.
In his 69 games with Flamengo prior to moving to Spain, Vinicius kept up a strong disciplined record, receiving nine yellow cards but without being dismissed. He has also received six yellow cards overall while playing for Brazil, but he has never been sent off while playing for any level, from minor teams to the senior side.
Will Vinicius Jr miss Copa del Rey match?
Reports claim that Vinicius Jr might receive a four-match suspension for the incident, in which he was irritated by the referee's ruling. If this occurs, Real Madrid might be without him for important forthcoming games, such as the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup. Vinicius will not play against Deportiva Minera in the Copa del Rey round of 32 as of yet. In this instance, Vinicius Junior's next Real Madrid game may be against RB Salzburg in the seventh league phase of the UEFA Champions League.
