In what seems to be a shock for Barcelona, they will continue to miss the services of the star Spanish forward Dani Olmo for the remaining part of the season. It was confirmed after the club’s appeal to register the Spaniard for the second half of the season, just a day before the last date, was rejected by La Liga.
The 26-year-old last played for Barcelona in a La Liga game against the table toppers, Atletico Madrid on December 22. He was in action for his side for the 26 minutes of the game in the attacking midfield position.
Coming back to the rejection Barcelona faced in their attempt to register the Spain international for the second half of the season, the club appealed in the second court after they faced rejection in the Commercial Court Number 10.
On Monday, December 30, the Court of First Instance Number 47 happened to upheld the ruling and rejected Barca’s appeal to rope in the attacking midfielder into their squad for the remaining season.
Here’s what La Liga said in the official statement
LaLiga understands that “the court rejected the precautionary registration of Olmo after none of the conditions necessary for the adoption of the precautionary measure were met.”
“The ruling also stresses that: 'The purpose of allowing additional spending is so that a long-term injury does not weaken the team's competitiveness, not to use a long-term injury to allow the registration of players whose salaries exceed the limit, which is what FC Barcelona is attempting',” the league stated further.
Now, Hansi Flick’s Barcelona have probably lost their chances for further appeals to get Dani Olmo on board for the remainder of the ongoing season.
Olmo has scored 5 goals for Barca in his 11 La Liga appearances in the ongoing 2024-25 edition of the tournament. In these appearances, he has spent 628 minutes on the field for the club.
Speaking of Barca’s performance in the La Liga 2024-25, they are placed in the third spot on the tournament’s points, with 12 wins and five defeats, alongside 2 drawn games in their 19 matches. They have 38 points to their name, just 3 points behind the table toppers, Atletico Madrid who have 41 points.
