In the recent UEFA Europa League fixture against Tottenham Hotspur, the Turkish Club Galatasaray defeated the Premier League side 3-2 with goals from striker Victor Osimhen. However, Galatasaray's other forward Mauro Icardi is now on a recovery period after sustaining a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in their Europa League match against Tottenham.
Icardi to undergo surgery
The Turkish club has declared that the former Paris St-Germain striker will start pre-operative rehabilitation in preparation for his upcoming right knee surgery.
Recovery from an anterior cruciate ligament tear generally requires six to nine months, ensuring a comprehensive healing process.
Icardi joined the club in 2022 on a season-long loan from Paris St-Germain and solidified his commitment with a permanent transfer a year later.
The talented Argentina striker had to be stretchered off just five minutes before the final whistle, during a thrilling 3-2 victory for his team in Istanbul on Thursday. Icardi, aged 31, unfortunately went down in pain while trying to intercept a pass from Tottenham's goalkeeper, Fraser Forster.
Icardi has netted an impressive tally of 61 goals in 86 appearances for the Istanbul club. The former Inter Milan player has successfully revitalized his career at Galatasaray, developing a strong partnership with Victor Osimhen. Unfortunately, it appears he will likely miss the remainder of the season.
“A tear and damage to the meniscus in the anterior cruciate ligament of the right knee of the Argentine striker Icardi, who was injured in the Tottenham match in the fourth round of the European League, was detected through magnetic resonance imaging examinations that... It was performed in the hospital this morning. The pre-operative rehabilitation process has begun for our player, who is scheduled to undergo surgery,” read the club's statement.
