FC Barcelona director gives hint at signing Nico Williams again?

Even though FC Barcelona had a difficult summer transfer window, the club continued to play at a very high level. The Catalan team was unsuccessful in their attempt to sign Nico Williams, but they were successful in acquiring the services of Spanish midfield sensation Dani Olmo.

One of Europe's worst-kept rumours of the summer was Barcelona's interest in the winger for Athletic Bilbao. The midfielder acknowledged that players like Alejandro Balde and Lamine Yamal had lately attempted to persuade him to become part of the Catalan team, but he finally decided to do so after talking to his family.

In a recent interview, Deco, the sports director, acknowledged that the team did try to acquire Nico Williams however moved on after the player showed no enthusiasm in the move, if not last summer, according to Mundo Deportivo.

He said, “Nico is a player who indeed interested us in the summer; we tried, but from there, the player made a decision, and life goes on. We brought in Dani Olmo, who was the priority because we lacked such a player in the squad. The idea with Nico was to have another forward player to foster high-level competition, but once the player shows no interest in coming, there’s no further discussion.” 

Raphinha could not have played as much of a part as he has accomplished so far this campaign if Nico Williams had arrived at Barcelona. Given their current record, it appears like Nico's decision to skip the club during the summer was actually a boon. 

Can Nico Williams join FC Barcelona anytime soon?

Without a doubt, Nico's extraordinary brilliance cannot be diminished in any manner. The €70 million Spanish winger, however, declined FC Barcelona's offer even though he had no idea if the club would ever give him another chance.

Although Nico Williams has had a respectable season with Athletic Bilbao, he is far from reaching the same level of success as Raphinha and Lamine Yamal under Hansi Flick. Let's wait and see how things work out; only time will provide insight into what the player's future holds.
