Robert Lewandowski VAR

On Sunday, FC Barcelona are going to be questioning VAR a lot because of a controversial decision during their game against Real Sociedad. When Hansi Flick's team traveled to play Real Sociedad, they believed they had Robert Lewandowski's first goal. The Poland international appeared in the center of the box, turned, and then shot into the upper right corner. However, one of the tightest offside calls of the season resulted in the goal being called out minutes later.

In a flash, the home team scored as Becker is the first to grab the loose ball and shoots it home after Sucic passes on and Inaki Pena's goal kick returns to its original location. Since FC Barcelona has one of the best defenses in the league, it was a formidable opponent to score against, and it was his first official La Liga goal since April.

FC Barcelona came into the game on a winning streak of seven games in all competitions. Prior to this match, they had recently defeated Red Star Belgrade 5-2 during the UEFA Champions League, demonstrating their offensive strength. Flick's team, led by 19 goals from Robert Lewandowski and outstanding play from Raphinha, had scored 40 goals in only twelve league games.

Why did Lamine Yamal not play against Real Sociedad?

The last time FC Barcelona lost at Anoeta before today was in April 2016, but they also had a great record there. In all competitions, they have won 10 of their previous 11 meetings with Real Sociedad. But now that they lost 1-0 in a close encounter away from home, the streak is over.

FC Barcelona has stated that Lamine Yamal will miss their match against Real Sociedad due to a "severe contusion." Lamine Yamal was not included in Barcelona's traveling squad for Sunday night's match against Real Sociedad. Barcelona acknowledged that the 17-year-old sustained a "severe contusion" during Wednesday's 5-2 UEFA Champions League victory over Crvena Zvezda.
