Erling Haaland of Manchester City, who has had an incredible start to the season under Pep Guardiola, has been named the Premier League Player of the Month for August. Following a summer off, Haaland exploded into the scene at the start of the domestic football season, scoring three goals in a row to take the lead.

The Norwegian - provided he continues to be fit - already looks the early favourite for winning the Premier League Golden Boot despite his nearest current competitors - Mo Salah, Noni Madueke, Bryan Mbeumo as well as Luis Diaz - currently four back, on three goals each.

As a member of the City team that has started their 2024–25 Premier League campaign with a frightening 100% record, Haaland scored in the team's opening-day victory over Chelsea before going on to score three goals against Ipswich and West Ham.

During the recently concluded UEFA Nations League international break, Haaland, playing for Norway, added another goal to his already impressive season total against Austria. Salah, Mbeumo, Amadou Onana, Cole Palmer, David Raya, Bukayo Saka, and Danny Welbeck were the other nominees on the list.

Before hosting Inter Milan in their first-ever UEFA Champions League match of the season, a tantalising rematch of the final from 2024, which City famously won in Istanbul, City's next hurdle is a home match against Brentford tomorrow.

“I am delighted to have won this award” : Erling Haaland

He spoke to the club media after winning the award as he said, “I am delighted to have won this award so early in the season and would like to thank everyone who voted for me. I am also very grateful to my team-mates, the coaches and staff for helping to make it happen.”

The former Borussia Dortmund striker added, “August was a brilliant month for the team, and I am proud to have played an important part in that. To have scored seven goals last month in three matches is great, but I will continue to work hard and improve my game. We have given ourselves a great foundation to build on now going into a busy period with the Champions League and Carabao Cup starting.”
