Dortmund star Mats Hummels is all set to make a move to AS Roma

The 35-year-old Mats Hummels is poised to join AS Roma as a free agent following his departure from Borussia Dortmund earlier this summer. He will be travelling to Rome on Wednesday, September 4, where he will be undergoing a medical examination and finalising contractual arrangements with the Italian club.

It was previously reported that Real Sociedad has been engaging in advanced discussions to secure the services of an experienced defender. However, it now appears that he will be making the switch to Serie A instead.

Mats Hummels was scheduled to arrive in Italy today by 12:30 pm (CEST) on Wednesday for his medical examination with the club. La Gazzetta dello Sport has provided details about the final agreement. Hummels is all set to sign an annual contract with automatic renewal based on 50% of his appearances. This contract is worth around 2.5-3 million euros bonuses included.

An Overview of Hummels's Career 

Hummels has had a successful club career in Germany, winning five Bundesliga titles during his stints at Dortmund. Bayern Munich made 508 appearances for Dortmund across two separate spells after making his Bundesliga debut for Bayern. 

Hummels was loaned to Dortmund from Bayern for the 2008-09 season before permanently joining the team. He became an essential part of Jurgen Klopp’s squad and helped the team secure back-to-back German league titles in 2011 and 2012.

In 2016, Hummels returned to Bayern and contributed to the team winning three consecutive league titles. With 70 caps for his country, he was also a member of the German team that secured victory in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Fabrizio Romano confirms the transfer

Famous football transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed Hummels's move to Italy with his popular catchphrase 'Here We Go'. Romano on his Twitter handle mentions details about the transfer and mentions his salary. He also mentions that the transfer terms have been set till June 2025.
