Mats Hummels has become a free agent as the German defender has announced his departure from Borussia Dortmund. He was amazing throughout the season for the German club and led the side beautifully in the UEFA Champions League final. His side despite losing showed an excellent brand of football in the European club competition and against the odds qualified for the final as well. He featured in 39 matches for Dortmund this season and managed to score 4 goals.

He got the man of the match award in both legs of the semi-final of the UCL against Paris Saint-Germain and scored the winning goal in the second leg of the fixture. The 35-year-old defender despite his stellar performance in the 2023/24 season, was snubbed off from the national team as he did not get a call for the UEFA Euro 2024.

There were clubs interested in signing him as soon as the departure was announced Serie A club AS Roma has shown their interest in a move for the German defender. Daniele Longo has said that Roma is interested in him. Daniele de Rossi has requested six acquisitions to rejuvenate the Giallorossi squad, and Hummels is regarded as a leader in the backline.

Hummels to stay in Europe

Despite having offers from Saudi Arabia clubs he has rejected them and wants to stay in Europe. As the transfer window has opened Roma will be looking to snatch the defender as quickly as possible. His agent is trying to convince Torino to sell the player for a favourable price, there have been negotiations going on in the initial stage with no final talks in place presently.

His numbers have been ridiculous, indicative of one of the finest individual campaigns the Champions League has ever seen. He has won more tackles (27) and duels (79), and made more interceptions (21) and clearances (62) than any other player in the competition, while he also ranks second for possession won (77).
