Ian Maatsen, the Chelsea defender, says he has no idea whether he has a future at the club following enabling Borussia Dortmund to make the final of the UEFA Champions League. Maatsen has been a major figure in Dortmund's surprising journey to Saturday's Wembley final versus Real Madrid, having appeared in all six of Edin Terzic's UEFA Champions League knockout games. The Dutch under-21 international scored as well in the second leg of the quarterfinals against Atlético Madrid, which ended 4-2 at Signal Iduna Park.

Dortmund wants to keep Maatsen past the end of his loan term, either through another loan or a permanent transfer, but insiders say they are unlikely to match Chelsea's £35 million ($44.7 million) value of the player. The Netherlands defender spoke about whether he has had any touch with Chelsea over the past month, "In recent weeks? No. No, not yet. I think I still have a contract and after the summer we are going to decide where my future is going to be.

The Chelsea loanee added, "For now, I am just focusing on this game [the Champions League final] and obviously what's coming next. No [I have nothing to prove to Chelsea], I just have to do something to prove to myself. I came here to prove myself that I can play on the highest level and that's what I'm doing now."

“I had such a good feeling to come here” : Ian Maatsen

Maatsen, who had previously been loaned out by Chelsea to Charlton Athletic, Coventry, and Burnley, believes his move to Dortmund paid off due of the club's willingness to give young players a chance.

Ian Maatsen said, "I think they just give young people opportunity. Players like me, I just came here from the start and [played] straight through. We play many games and also the Champions League, they give us the chance to shine and I'm very grateful for that. When I came here, I felt like I've been playing with the guys for many years. I had such a good feeling to come here and felt very welcome, and me and the fans have also had a great connection."
