Netherlands have made some changes to their initial squad as their manager Ronald Koeman has revealed the names of four players that would not be part of the roster any more. Ian Maatsen, Nick Olij, Quinten Timber are the three players that have been removed from the initial squad. An injury to Marten de Roon means that the Atalanta midfielder won't be travelling with the team any more for the UEFA Euro 2024.
Frenkie de Jong, an injured midfielder, and former leader Georginio Wijnaldum are among those named to the Netherlands' preliminary roster of 30 players for Euro 2024. FC Barcelona's De Jong is expected to be out with an injury to his ankle for about a month, but he will be offered a chance to show his health for next month's competition.
Wijnaldum, who formerly played for Liverpool, Newcastle, and Paris St-Germain before joining Al-Ettifaq, was called up to the national team in March after missing nine months. Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch, and Cody Gakpo, as well as Atletico Madrid attacker Memphis Depay, are among the players included.
Jurrien Timber, the Arsenal defender, is one of the confirmed absentees from the squad that will be trimmed to 26 players on May 29, as manager Ronald Koeman releases his final roster for the upcoming tournament in Germany.
The Netherlands will play warm-up matches against Canada and Iceland next month before starting the tournament against Poland on June 16 in Hamburg. Koeman's team will also play France and Austria in Group D. They are expected to make it out of the group without much difficulty.
