Cesc Fabregas accomplished the FIFA World Cup 2010 as well as the UEFA Euros 2012 while playing for Spain, as well as numerous club trophies with FC Barcelona, Arsenal, and Chelsea.

However, contributing to Como's promotion to Serie A ranks high on the former midfielder's list of notable football achievements. Following last weekend's draw with Cosenza, the Lombardy club earned its third promotion within six years. Como is returning back into the Italian top division after a 21-year absence, during which they went bankrupt twice. Fabregas has held an important role this season, first as caretaker manager and subsequently as assistant manager.

Como was relegated from the Italian Serie A in 2003 and was forced to play in Serie D, Italy's non-professional fourth flight. Financial difficulties accompanied football issues, with Como declaring bankruptcy for the second time just as recently as 2016. However, they have been on a steady rise since 2019, when a subsidiary of Indonesian tobacco powerhouse Djarum took control of the club. When Fabregas joined Como as a player in 2022, the club was in Serie B. He also became a shareholder, joining former Arsenal and Barcelona teammate Thierry Henry.

Cesc Fabregas set to sign new long-term contract with Como as manager

In November 2023, just some months after retiring, Fabregas was selected as interim head coach. At that time, Cesc Fabregas stated that he did not believe promotion was attainable for "many reasons," including the team's mindset. Fabregas was solely able to occupy the head coach position for seven games because he lacked the necessary coaching licence. Como therefore selected former Wales assistant coach Osian Roberts to oversee the team until the conclusion of this season, with Fabregas continuing as his number two.

Now it is being reported that Como have decided to sign a long-term contract with Cesc Fabregas as manager. The former Arsenal playmaker has agreed to the terms and conditions of the deal and the announcement might be made official sooner rather than later.
