In his inaugural interview as Manchester United's head coach, Ruben Amorim outlined his coaching philosophy and primary objectives for the team.
Having previously managed Sporting CP, Amorim spoke with enthusiasm to MUTV after he arrived in Manchester earlier this week. With many players away on international duty, he is now focusing on preparing the squad for their upcoming match against Ipswich on Sunday, November 24.
There is a sense of optimism among the fanbase, as the 39-year-old coach steps into this role, eager to work with a promising group of developing talents at Old Trafford.
Amorim's warning to the five youngsters
In his first interview with the club's in-house media, Amorim was asked about the potential of five talented youngsters in his squad: Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho, Amad Diallo, Rasmus Hojlund, and Leny Yoro.
Amorim emphasized the importance of not allowing age to be a factor in their performances. He expressed confidence that these players possess both the character and the skill needed to succeed at Manchester United, highlighting that they wouldn’t be part of the team if they didn’t have the potential to excel.
“I don’t want to say that we need time because we are a young team, they are prepared. They are prepared to cope with the demands of playing for Manchester United. They should be because they are here" Amorim said.
“We know it will take time and we will try to win time with the games. But we have to start from day one without fear, without thinking that they are not used to playing like this. This is not on my mind. They will start on the first day with our idea, no matter what. That’s the goal.” he added.
Amorim's plan to change the approach
United faced intense criticism under Erik ten Hag for lacking a clear identity. Pundits consistently pointed out that there was no certainty in United's performance from one week to the next, and it was never in a positive light. The inconsistency raised serious concerns about whether the team would show up for crucial matches.
“We must have an identity. If our players take the shirt, they will know that it is the Manchester United team. Everybody thinks the same, running back, playing, enjoying. This is what drives me.” Amorim stated.
