FC Barcelona has reportedly reached a final decision regarding the contract centre-back Eric Garcia. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, Eric Garcia will stay at FC Barcelona for the remainder of the current season. The contract extension for Ronald Araujo and the interest from Girona and Como in acquiring Garcia will not result in his departure from the club.

Hansi Flick Halted Garcia's departure

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has been pivotal in keeping Eric Garcia at the club during this moment of financial struggles. According to SPORT, Flick successfully halted Garcia's transfer to Girona last summer after a loan spell, recognizing the importance of retaining his services. With injuries to key players like Andreas Christensen and Marc Bernal, alongside Ronald Araujo's ongoing absence, Flick made a strategic decision to keep Garcia in the squad to bolster the club's defence line.

After being a key player for a major part of the season where he started several matches, Garcia faced a setback due to an unfortunate injury that sidelined him for a few weeks.

Upon his return, he aligned with the recovery of other key players, including Gavi, Frenkie de Jong, and later Araujo. The combination of limited playing time and interest from Como and Girona had compelled Garcia to contemplate a move in the current winter transfer window. However, Flick came to the club's rescue and stopped the transfer.

According to the report, following the match against Benfica, where Garcia came on as a substitute and scored a pivotal goal, a conversation took place between the player and the coach.

Flick, just as he did during the summer transfer window, firmlyd out any possibility of Garcia leaving the club, emphasizing that he could not afford to lose a player who offers versatility across multiple positions.
