Frenkie De Jong previously agreed to defer a substantial portion of his salary to support Barcelona during the pandemic.

A new agreement has now been reached over the unpaid wages, with De Jong set to receive around €18m (£15m). However, to access this amount, he must agree to an exit during next summer's transfer window.

Despite being a key player, the Catalan Club is willing to let him go due to his high wages, as his departure could also result in a significant transfer fee.

The former Ajax star has been on the bench since April following a persistent ankle injury, that acted as a roadblock for him from making any appearances for the team.

Barcelona's Gaffer reported that he is in the advanced stages of recovery.

"The problem for him is not the normal week, he is an experienced player, he can help me even if he plays 20 minutes, but we have to see how he evolves. We'll see next week." - Flick said.

He may appear on the pitch in the Champions League fixture against Young Boys. However, it's almost certain that he is set to return in the fixture against Alaves.

Manchester City interested in De Jong

According to reports, Manchester City is considering making a move for Camp Nou's midfielder Frenkie de Jong next year, and they are also considering the possibility of a deal during the January transfer window.

The team is likely to be in the market for a new central midfielder in the winter, following Rodri's serious knee injury, that ruled him out for the rest of the season.

De Jong, 27, has a contract with Camp Nou until June 2026, and there is speculation that he might depart the La Liga giants next year.
