When Luis Enrique addressed his PSG players about playing the Catalans in the UEFA Champions League the previous season, he said that Xavi's Barcelona team “played like Eibar”. Lucho discusses FC Barcelona before the game in the recently released documentary "You have no f---ing idea," in which he delivers a harsh assessment of Xavi's squad.
The Paris Saint-Germain manager said, “Barça aren’t guaranteed to [dominate games], they haven’t in two seasons with Xavi. They aren’t a dominant team and they are not a good team defensively, either. They defend with bodies but they don’t have quality in defence.”
Despite winning the first leg, FC Barcelona was eliminated after losing 4-1 at home. Luis Enrique was forthright about his thoughts about Xavi's team prior to the rematch. Before the match, Luis Enrique, who is renowned for his outspokenness, stirred up controversy by asserting at a news conference that he best represented Barcelona's style of playmaking.
The former FC Barcelona head coach said, “It’s a lie to say Barça were better, that’s completely false. They played long balls. Ter Stegen broke the record for long passes — I think it was 24. They play like Eibar. It was all long balls. Call it the third man if you’re a fan of Xaxi.”
By defeating Getafe in the Montjuic, FC Barcelona continued their winning run in La Liga. The Blaugrana team had 18 points after six match days going into the encounter, but they defeated Getafe 1-0 to increase their lead to 21 points. Thinking back to the team's past meetings with Getafe, Flick was pleased with his team for winning all three points in the match.
Additionally, highlighting the significance of these challenging games, Flick said, "Matches like these are more useful to us than thrashing teams and winning by more goals. You have to analyze and improve from these matches when you suffer the most."
