The game of football has been developed over the years with the advancement of technology. The referees over the decades have changed with the advancement, after the introduction of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) and the Goal Line Technology the job of the on-field officials has become much more easier than it was before. However, there have been controversies over the VAR systems as the technology has made some controversial decisions that have changed the course of the match.

However, as the controversies continue FIFA’s chief of global football development, Arsene Wenger has come up with a new proposal for the betterment of the match officialsAs the former Arsenal manager is preparing to implement his "daylightoffside rules, which would be the most significant rule change in football history in over 30 years. As per the Times, the trials for the same have already been seen by the chief, performed in Sweden, Italy, and the Netherlands.

The 74-year-old is now to pitch the new offside regulation to football lawmakers at the International FA Board (IFAB). The most latest change to the offside rule was in 1990 when Scotland successfully stated that attackers be onside if they were level with defenders rather than behind them.

Will the new offside rule be implemented?

According to the report, the new rule can face severe backlash as it will "give too much advantageto attackers. Luis Figo, who is the head of UEFA's Football Board, is said to be against the proposal of the former manager. However Ex-Arsenal vice-chairman David Dein backed Wenger, when there was a meeting of FIFA the previous week in Bangkok, as the former believes that it is a "refreshingly innovativeidea.

Wenger has been working on the proposal for four years and said the following back in 2020 about the offside rule: "There is room to change the rule and not say that a part of a player’s nose is offside, so you are offside because you can score with that. Instead, you will be not offside if any part of the body that can score a goal is in line with the last defender, even if other parts of the attacker’s body are in front. That will sort it out and you will no longer have decisions about millimeters and a fraction of the attacker is in front of the defensive line."
