The English Premier League 2023-24 final match day was played on Sunday where all the 20 league teams played their final game. Two teams Arsenal and Manchester City came on the final day for the title race. The Gunners hosted Everton at the Emirates Stadium, as Mikel Arteta’s side have performed brilliantly in the league, as they were excellent defensively conceding the least number of goals in the league. But a win for them would not have secured the league as they needed City to drop points.

The game started exactly the way the home side wanted as they pressured higher up the pitch and created the chances, they made the Merseyside defence under pressure with most of the game being played in their half with Jordan Pickford making two good saves to deny the opening. The Toffees looked threatening on the counterattack as they opened the defence of the home side with Dominic Calvert-Lewin almost scoring as his shot was struck by the post.

Arsenal's title quest continues

After soaking in the pressure the visitors opened the scoring from a free kick, with Idrissa Gueye’s strike hitting Declan Rice’s head in the wall and ending in the goal. Soon the home side struck back as Takehiro Tomiyasu made it 1-1 after meeting the low cross off Martin Odegaard. The first half ended evenly poised.

The second half started with the home side trying to find the lead, but the away side was compact in defence, it went a little more physical with Gabriel Magalhaes being taken off after he picked up a shoulder injury. The home side kept on trying but could not find the lead as Kai Havertz’s free header struck the crossbar. Emile Smith Rowe’s volley also hit the crossbar denying the opportunity to score. Havertz scored the winner in the 89th minute of the game. But they failed to win the league after getting so close, as City won their game against the Hammers.
