Arsenal are plotting a surprising move to sign Bayern Munich star Kingsley Coman, according to reports. The Bundesliga club is understood to be giving the green light to let their winger go on a season-long loan. However, Bayern would need an obligation or option-to-buy clause to complete the deal.
Despite his reputation for injury, the addition of Coman could be huge for the Gunners in the upcoming season. Notably, he is coming on the back of an injury-hit season as he made only 17 Bundesliga appearances and 27 in all competitions. However, the 28-year-old is understood to have regained full fitness, attracting interest from Arsenal.
The rumours came after the release of a recent episode of the Football Insider’s Track Podcast, in which senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Bayern are willing to let Coman leave the club this summer. Meanwhile, there are some sources who have noted that the winger’s interest in a transition will depend upon the guarantee that he receives over playing time if he joins.
Coman set to end a decade-long journey with Bayern
It is noteworthy that Coman still has a contract with the German side that runs until the summer of 2027 with a €50m (£42m) valuation. He has been with the Munch-based club for almost a decade now. He joined on loan from Italian side Juventus in 2015 before making the move permanent two years later.
Coman has played more than 290 matches for Bayern across all competitions and has provided 63 goals and 66 assists. Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s head coach, is keen on acquiring the services of the Frenchman to reinforce their attack. The Premier League giants are on the hunt for a quality winger and have identified Coman as an ideal choice.
Moreover, Coman’s rich history of winning championships is also an attractive factor for all clubs. For the unversed, last season was the first in Coman’s career, he failed to win a league title. With two Ligue 1 titles, two Serie A titles and eight Bundesliga crowns over the previous 12 years, the star winger has already decorated his career.
