Jack Grealish of Manchester City is apparently injured and will not play in the Community Shield match against Manchester United. The 28-year-old, who participated in every preseason friendly this summer, was expected to make an appearance against the Red Devils.  The Sun claims that Grealish will not play, though, since he sustained a late injury during training.

Grealish may have been stunned and upset by Gareth Southgate's choice to leave him out of the final 26-man tournament squad, as well as by the shock it caused his teammates, Declan Rice included. However, given his dismal season and the inconsistent play of his attacking midfield teammates, starting him always posed a danger.

Pep Guardiola is impressed by the efforts of Jack Grealish during pre-season and wants him to keep his standards up. He said, “What I’ve seen so far here, one week in the pre-season on tour, I loved it. I don’t care how he performs, it’s every session his commitment and his trying, against Barcelona he made five or six shots, he was aggressive with the ball, that’s all, after that his quality will do the rest.”

Which other Manchester City players will miss the game against Manchester United?

Pep Guardiola has offered Rodri an extended vacation so he can return rejuvenated. When Spain defeated England during the finals of the UEFA Euro 2024, Rodri was a major factor in that victory.  Another player who is being rested is Kyle Walker, who participated heavily in the Euros. With a big season approaching, it also affords City an opportunity to test out several of their bench players.

Phil Foden, a sensation for Manchester City, has been advised to take a break because of his workload management. Phil Foden was a vital member of Manchester City's squad the previous season and was a major contributor to England's success in the Euros. Pep Guardiola does not want to hurriedly insert John Stones once again into the starting lineup because the backline is loaded with choices. The former Everton player wants to prepare for the opening game of the season against Chelsea the following week.
