AC Milan's new acquisition Alvaro Morata and his wife Alice Campello have announced their separation after eight years together. The couple confirmed their decision on social media in separate posts on Monday, August 12. The announcement shocked fans as the two always looked united and happy.

“After a period of reflection, Alice and I decided to part ways,” Morata said in a statement. The couple, who started dating in 2016 while the Spaniard was playing for Italian side Juventus, got married in June 2017. They also have four children: Alessandro, Edoardo Leonardo, and Bella.

Declaring it a “painful decision”, Morata said the decision was made out of mutual respect and that Campello will always have a "special place" in his heart.

“It was a marvellous and respectful relationship, where we helped each other so much. The fruits of these wonderful years were our four children, undoubtedly the best thing we ever made. It’s a painful decision, but we took it respectfully and empathetically,” the Spain national team captain said.

“Do not make up stories for a minute of notoriety because I repeat, there wasn’t a moment of disrespect, only much incomprehension that slowly destabilised things.

“Alice will always have a special place in my heart. All we experienced together was an incredible learning experience,” he added.

Duo's split comes just three days after signing for Milan

Notably, after Spain's Euro 2024 triumph, Campello came onto the pitch with their kids to celebrate Morata and his men's remarkable success. The couple also reportedly spent a holiday together after the historic feat.

It has only been three days since former Chelsea and Real Madrid star Morata was unveiled as Milan's new addition. He joined Milan in a €13m deal from Atletico Madrid, signing a contract until 2028 with an option for a further campaign.

Campello, a digital influencer and entrepreneur, said that it was the “most difficult decision of their lives.” She added that no “third persons” were involved or “any sort of disrespect” had happened in their relationship.
