The recent victory for Donald Trump in the US elections may have brought some bad news for gamers as the latest proposed tariffs on imports, especially from China, sees an astronomical jump. This increase will also affect the cost of gaming consoles across the US, forcing gamers to spend more just to purchase hardware to play the game on.
Current proposal for new tariffs include up to 20% on all imports, except from China. In case of China, the proposed tariff is 60%. As of now, this isn’t final and simply proposed, but in case it happens, gaming consoles like PS5 and Nintendo Switch can see as much as 40% price increase.
This prediction comes from a report from the Consumer Technology Association and those thinking 'well maybe it’s time to shift to PC,' they are also in for a surprise as PC components, laptops and tablets will also see a 46% increase.

Nintendo Switch 2 might see a heavy bump in price
In case the new proposed tariffs are implemented, gamers can forget every speculation they had regarding the pricing of Nintendo Switch 2. As of now, Nintendo has only revealed that Switch 2 is coming without any definitive date.
Nintendo, however, did reveal that the first look at the console will be coming in 2025, so fans are expecting a release a few months after. With backwards compatibility and modern hardware, the console will most likely be an instant hit among gamers. People just might have to pay more than they expect. Even the older console will be affected.
The only feasible way in a situation the proposal passes and to lighten the impact of price increase may be to import from other countries, but that raises its own challenges as the production costs are the cheapest across China, so a slight increase in inevitable.
