Nintendo fans can now rest easy, as the Nintendo Switch 2 will let you play your old games without any problems. This was confirmed by the president of the company Shuntaro Furukawa through the official X (Twitter) account of the company. Little by little, things are being revealed, with more details regarding the device and this coming at a later date.

“Hello, this is Furukawa. At today's business direction briefing, we announced that Nintendo Switch software will be playable on the successor to the Nintendo Switch. In addition, Nintendo Switch Online will also be available on the successor to the Nintendo Switch,” the official post wrote.

“We will provide more information on the successor to the Nintendo Switch, including compatibility with the Nintendo Switch, at a later date,” the post further adds. The announcement clears up a lot of questions and users can go back to get the game they want without worrying about any issues with the successor.

Nintendo Switch 2 will be revealed this fiscal year

Apart from the backward, compatibility, another great news comes from the earnings call where Furukawa stated that Switch 2 is set to be announced this fiscal year (before March 31, 2025). Although the release on the other hand will not be any time before April 2025.

Leaks suggest much more powerful hardware for the Switch 2 with better configuration to run modern games. Elden Ring is also reportedly coming on the new device and is a very demanding game with its detailed open world and dungeons.

The wait for Nintendo Switch 2 will certainly be a long one, but fans are happy that they will be able to play their games on better resolution and frame rate. Furthermore, the device will once again be in the race and compete with the modern handheld that will be released recently.
