Apart from the Ryzen 9 9950X3D & Ryzen 9 9900X3D, AMD also revealed new Ryzen Z2 processors during the CES 2025. The processor promises an increase in performance across gaming handheld devices, however, one of the slides showcasing the features also had Valve’s Steam Deck with other handheld devices.
This started rumors about a new handheld device from Valve. The original Valve Steam Deck used Ryzen Z1 processors and was highly successful. With an image from AMD, it didn’t take too long for the word to spread around.
This started after AMD told The Verge that there would be new handheld gaming devices for Lenovo Legion Go, Asus ROG, and Steam Deck featuring the ZE processors. A post from AMD and an official confirmation, the rumors started flying off the shelf.
Many started believing that Valve might be working on a new handheld like Steam Deck 2 or possibly a refresh to the original Deck with Ryzen Z2 APUs. However, one of the employees from Valve, Pierre-Loup Griffais, cleared the air on the situation.

Valve not planning a new Steam Deck
As per Griffais, there are currently no plans for a Steam Deck with Ryzen Z2 processors. “There is and will be no Z2 Steam Deck. Guessing the slide was meant to say the series is meant for products like that, not announcing anything specific,” Griffais wrote.
To be clear, there is a very high chance of Valve making Steam Deck 2, however, the device was released only a few years back. It’ll be a very long time before gamers see a new iteration of Steam Deck. Then again, it is Valve we are talking about. Most recently, there were rumors that the company may announce Half-Life 3 after multiple leaks and many other things aligned. Once again nothing is confirmed with the Valve
