AMD announces Ryzen 9 9950X3D, leaves gamers hanging with minimum details for RX 9070 series

While AMD dominated one side of the market with the reveal of the Ryzen 9 9950X3D, they skipped the latest RX 9070 series GPU line-up that many were waiting for.

New X3D gaming processors are on their way as AMD revealed Ryzen 9 9950X3D & Ryzen 9 9900X3D CPUs during the CES 2025. The 16 cores/32 threads 9950X3D can reach up to 5.7 GHz in frequency and features a massive cache of 144 MB Cache using the 3D V-Cache technology that simply dominates the competition across the board.

The Ryzen 9 9900X3D, on the other hand, is a cut-down version featuring 12 cores/24 threads and will boss up to 5.5 GHz. It also comes with a bit smaller cache at 140 MB but will do the job fine in terms of gaming, especially CPU-intensive games.

As per AMD, this new X3D line-up has up to 64% better gaming performance compared to the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K. Compared to the previous best gaming processor, 7950X3D, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D shows over 50% performance improvement. Actual numbers after 3rd party benchmarks will likely reveal true gains.

No official launch for the RX 9070 series GPUs

AMD completely skipped their new RX 9070 series GPU featuring RDNA 4 as the company merely teased the architecture. It is hard to tell if there is a completely separate panel planned for the GPU announcement sometime in the future, but for now, fans are quite disappointed.

All we currently know is that the RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT are built upon a 4nm process with new 2nd Gen AI and 3rd Ray Tracing Accelerators. AMD did write overall improvements, however, no one knows how much of an uplift the new Radeon GPUs will provide.

There is also the new FSR 4 which is exclusive to the latest generation of AMD Graphic Cards. Once again, there aren’t many details about the tech except from what little was revealed. FSR 4 will use Machine Learning for better upscaling and frame generation along with anti-lag 2 for low latency. For now, their competitors, Nvidia, had a strong start in terms of GPU.
