Sony is finally doing what PC gamers have been asking for and removing the PlayStation Network account requirement for the PC port of their games. Starting January 30th, with the release of Marvel's Spider-Man 2, single-player games will have the PSN account linking option, providing in-game benefits.
In an official PlayStation blog post, the company revealed that games including God of War Ragnarök, Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, and The Last of Us Part II Remastered (coming April 3, 2025) will also have a similar option saying “An account for PlayStation Network will become optional for these titles on PC.”
PSN account to provide in-game benefits
While the PSN account requirement is becoming a choice for players, those who already have their accounts linked or will choose to link once the game releases, Sony has introduced in-game rewards to these single-player games.
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 - Early unlock suits: the Spider-Man 2099 Black Suit and the Miles Morales 2099 Suit.
- God of War Ragnarök - Gain access to the Armor of the Black Bear set for Kratos at the first Lost Items chest in the Realm Between Realms (previously only accessible in a New Game+ run) and a resource bundle (500 Hacksilver and 250 XP).
- The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered - +50 points to activate bonus features and unlock extras. Jordan’s Jacket from Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet as a skin for Ellie.
- Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered - Gain access to Nora Valiant outfit.

FAQ
Why did Sony remove the PSN account requirement?
Sony did not give a clear answer on why this requirement was removed after doubling down on their stance. It was likely due to the huge community backlash after the release of Helldivers 2 and all other PlayStation games released on PC, especially single-player games.
What are the benefits of Sony removing the PSN account requirement?
The latest PlayStation games released on PC with mandatory account linking were usually unavailable in certain regions. This is because Sony does not offer the ability to create an account in more than 150 countries. Removing this restriction will allow more players to purchase the game rather than pirating it.
