PlayStation users were recently struck with some changes to the ‘PlayStation Stars’ reward system. Originally introduced back in October 2022, the PlayStation Stars allowed players to earn Points on money spent in the store. However, Sony has now put certain restrictions that are not sitting well with the users.
As revealed in an e-mail, the duration of how long these stars can be held was significantly reduced. Previously, the points earned via PlayStation Stars could be held in the user account for up to 24 months. These points could then be used to redeem various rewards in the catalog. Now they only last 12 months.
“New Points earned will expire at the end of the month plus 12 months from the date on which they appear in your PlayStation Stars account balance. Points earned before October 24, 2024, will continue to expire at the end of the month plus 24 months from the date on which they appear in your PlayStation Stars account balance,” the update revealed.
Furthermore, money spent on any subscriptions, including the PlayStation Plus, will no longer reward players with those points. “The definition of 'Eligible Purchases' will be updated to exclude all subscription payments made on the PlayStation Store,” the company further added.

Store credit vouchers also missing from PlayStation store
Another thing PlayStation users have been experiencing is the lack of options to redeem wallet funds through the rewards catalog. Various people have now reported that the store credit vouchers are missing as they were saving points for that.
PlayStation Stars has stealthily changed the rewards program and you can no longer get $5 vouchers. I was literally 10 points away from getting one, sneaky shits. pic.twitter.com/fhi7pSdgTb

Few others reported that they still have the option to redeem store credit, which has led to confusion. At the moment it is unknown if the store credit is also being removed or if this is just some glitch people are experiencing. Given the situation, it would not be a surprise if Sony decided to remove that too.
