The Skyesports Souvenir 2025 Counter-Strike tournament after receiving no response from Valve regarding a reschedule for the tournament. As per reports, Skyesports applied for an exception to reschedule the event and introduce wildcard invites.

Advertisment

“We had applied for an exception to reschedule the Skyesports Souvenir 2025 and introduce wildcard invites. However, despite our efforts, we have not received a response from Valve.,” Skyesports said in their statement.

A few days back, Valve reminded tournament organizers of all the changes taking place starting in 2025. Valve also warned TOs of a penalty if they fail to meet the requirements of hosting the tournament as per the schedule. To make any changes, the organizers first had to apply for an exception which Skyesports did in this case.

Unfortunately, it seems that Valve has not responded resulting in the cancellation of the tournament. “Coupled with the current situation surrounding other events and concerns raised by teams about the tournament potentially becoming unranked, we are left with no choice but to cancel the Skyesports Souvenir 2025,” they added.

A big setback for Skyesports at the start of 2025

Last year, Skyesport revealed its roadmap for multiple Counter-Strike 2 tournaments featuring an all-around prize pool of over $1.5 million. However, the cancellation of the first major CS2 event for the organizer this year is unfortunate.

This is also not the first time Skyesport has come in headlines regarding the tournament. Last year, Skyesports Masters was shifted to an online event as the organizers failed to get the necessary permission from local authorities to host a tournament amidst ongoing elections.

Furthermore, the organizations also faced accusations of bad tournament conditions and non-payment of tournament prize money by various players. Skyesport denied these accusations claiming following a short delay the payments were made to everyone.
