After months of waiting, Nintendo finally revealed the Switch 2, which was a bit overshadowed by all the leaks. However, the excitement for the device remains high and people are eager to know more about the capabilities of the device. One question raised by many was how many new exclusive games the device will be launching.

The backward compatibility feature was highly appreciated by the community, but this raised the question if there would be exclusives too. Many expressed their doubts after the company only teased the new Mario Kart game in the official reveal.

In a statement to Game File, Nintendo addressed the ongoing whispers about Switch 2 and why the company added the backward compatibility feature in the device. The company did touch on the new exclusive games topic but refrained from explaining further.

“Nintendo Switch is played by many consumers, and we decided that the best direction to take would be for consumers to be able to play their already purchased Nintendo Switch software on the successor to Nintendo Switch. As a result of that thinking, Nintendo Switch 2 plays Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive games, as well as both physical and digital Nintendo Switch games,” the company said.

Switch 2 compatible games to be listed soon

The company also revealed that certain games may not be fully compatible with Nintendo Switch 2. All compatible games will be listed on the website soon. While Nintendo did reveal the design amidst all the leaks, the company remains tight-lipped.

Apart from the reason why Switch 2 is backwards compatible, fans will have to wait until April 4 for any more details regarding the device. “We have nothing more to announce on this topic. For more details on Nintendo Switch 2, please tune in for the Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2, which will air on April 2, 2025,” the company further added.
