GenG have now handed Sentinels their first defeat in the opening game for Valorant Champions 2024. The team already have a shaky history in and only saw one major win in 2024 which was coincidentally against GenG at 2024 VCT Masters Madrid, although GenG did go on to secure Masters Shanghai.
The initial loss has sent the team to an elimination bracket against FunPlus Phoenix, with the loser returning home. This has made the fans worried a bit as the team recently got a second chance at the Valorant Champions through Leviatán. After an early elimination from VCT Americas Stage 2 Playoffs, Leviatán gave the team another chance after securing one match.
Sentinels remained one step behind GenG at all stages. The opening game saw both teams with a decent start, however, as the game progressed, Sentinels could not manage to gain lead at any point and lost in their own map pick. The following game saw something similar as GenG dominated their map pick and secured another easy win to move on to the winners bracket.
Do-or-die situation for Sentinels
The team will now face FunPlus Phoenix, who also lost their initial match against Team Heretics, another fearsome team. Both teams will are set to compete for survival on August 8 with the winner moving on to a Decider Match. This means that even after surviving the Elimination Match, Sentinels will need to once again face either GenG or Team Heretics.
