Patch 9.08 for Valorant is set to shake up the competitive map rotation and will be removing Lotus and Icebox in favour of Pearl and Split. While Lotus was very decent, Icebox is among the most hated competitive maps in Valorant.

Since their release, Icebox has been a hit or miss with players. The rotation is scuffed and players have to hold multiple angles, which can be a huge disadvantage at times. Even after the developers at Riot Games adjusted the map, it still hasn’t resonated that well with the community.

While the players are happy that Icebox is leaving the map pool, some are still not satisfied with the returning map. As mentioned earlier, Pearl and Split will be the two new additions. While Pearl is fairly balanced, with some liking no extra elements, Split has seen its fair share of criticism.

However, players are shocked to see the map return so soon, and many even argued that Fracture, which didn't have a run in over a year in the competitive map pool, should be the one coming back instead of Split.

No major changes to new maps

The upcoming maps have not seen any changes by the developers, which is odd considering numerous players are constantly providing feedback on what they think can be improved upon. This has led fans to ask what the developers are planning, as it is not quite clear yet.

Instead of changes to the new map, Sunset will be receiving some updates, particularly on the B Site. The post-plant spam meta has made retakes of B Site quite a headache for the defenders, and to prevent that, the devs are making some changes that are aimed at resolving the issue.

“While I don’t have anything to announce today, I do want the VALORANT community to know that we are looking closely at how to improve the overall map pool experience,” said Al Robles, lead producer for the Valorant maps team.
