Rockstar Games in its recent earnings call showcased a number of sales, including the ones for the Red Dead Redemption series. As per the report, the franchise has sold over 90 million copies, out of which 67 million units were for Red Dead Redemption 2. The remaining included the original game and the recent re-release.
RDR2 was a technological marvel, pairing extreme visuals and an incredible story with one of the most complex world designs. Many AAA games released today struggle to hold a candle against the game’s incredible attention to detail and storytelling, which is why it is considered one of the best single-player games, despite releasing back in 2018.
Take-Two Interactive also shared more details regarding the game, revealing that RDR 2 is the second best-selling title in the U.S. in the past six years. Players also have an option to buy the online multiplayer edition of the game, although it is included with the single-player option.
The original Red Dead Redemption was one of the most awaited games as it was only ever released across consoles. However, Rockstar recently brought the game along with Undead Nightmare expansion on PS4 and Nintendo Switch in August 2023 and on PC in October 2024.

Fans waiting for Rockstar Games to complete the trilogy
Usually, when a game sells this well, companies make sequels, but fans are still waiting to see anything about Red Dead Redemption 3. This is likely due to Rockstar having to develop another popular franchise, Grand Theft Auto (GTA) in parallel.
As of now, GTA 6 is set to release sometime in Fall 2025 and the company is likely putting everything into the release. It is possible that the fans might get a new Red Dead Redemption game after GTA 6, but it might be a long wait.
